A HISTORY professor was killed by a train after accidentally
 wandering on to tracks.
William Speck, 79, had headaches and spells of confusion in the
days before, an inquest heard.

Concerned staff at an archive where he was working in Whitehaven,
Cumbria, walked him to the town’s train station to ensure he
got the right service.
Prof Speck, a renowned modern history expert, got off in his
home city Carlisle at 7.15pm.
His body was found at 7.30am the next day.
It was impossible to say what time he was killed,
 the Carlisle inquest heard.
Coroner David Roberts said: “It seems to me he was confused,
unwell and didn’t know what he was doing.”
The verdict confirmed the tragic event as an accident.
