It was now the turn of Terrestrial Life to spend time before His Majesty. The King was particularly interested in what would be the alleged usurper's response to all the things that had been said about him. Terrestrial Life had, rightly or wrongly, been tagged a troublemaker, an impostor, an enemy, an aggressor and an uncontrollable monster of a usurper. The misdemeanours severally attributed to this god were thus endless. For the sake of fairness, he was now being given an opportunity to state his own side of the story before the one person that really matters. He had to show cause why His Majesty should not believe all those things that were being bandied about as regards him. Would he be able to pull it off? With the glint in his eyes, it seemed he was ready for this task and was, from all indications, raring to go. The King immediately took him up on what was supposed to have been his role in the debacle of Terrestrial.
The King decided to set the ball rolling,
'For how long are you going to continue to undermine my kingdom? How will you be able to prevent my wrath from being visited upon you because of this impudence on your part? What actually came upon you that made you to decide to turn my representatives against me?'
Demonstrating all the calmness of a self-starter and with an unusual composure, Terrestrial Life replied the King. The encounter was now nearing its high point.
Said Terrestrial Life stoically,
'I acknowledge your greatness with all humility and reverence, most gracious King. Friend of the beleaguered, the truth is that I would be the last person to undermine your kingdom. In any case, this would totally have been illogical considering that I know who you really are, the Essence. Not only that, I also know that I came from you. Your Majesty, I hereby tell my story. Collectively and individually, I can be described as the tenures of the inhabitants of Terrestrial, that is, the lifespans of your representatives. I am the one that animates them. Essentially, I represent the periods of time for service allocated to these representatives of yours around here, that is, their lifetimes. At the ends of these periods, they must necessarily be recalled in order for them to give an account of their stewardship. Basically, you gave me as a loan to these people, no more no less. I am not ashamed to state categorically that I am the force of their consciousness. Without me they are not.'
The god went on, 'I give to everyone of your representatives the opportunity to execute your mandate. It is shocking that many of them failed to see my being with them as a special, never-to-be abused privilege. Nevertheless, it is up to them to avail themselves of this opportunity and use me for the purpose for which I was given. This is because before long I fly away, never again to be seen on these shores. I usually only have real meaning to those who have me and who use me the way the King expected me to be used. However, I simply cannot guarantee for how long I will remain with any of your representatives. I may be here now but gone the next moment. Considering that you loaned me out to these people, you could recall me at any time. In your wisdom, Your Majesty, you have simply refused to enter into any dialogue with these emissaries of yours concerning the possibility of their knowing from the onset, for how long I will be with them. My strength and vitality flows directly from you, the great giver. The length of my stay with any of your representatives is not determined by his or her possessions or riches nor does it depend on anything he or she is prepared to do.
Now getting into his rhythm, Terrestrial Life continued, his laser-like eyes firmly fixed on the King,
'I was shocked and shaken when your emissaries decided that I should be worshipped. They gleefully forgot that I am a loan and a mere servant. By their action, they meant that I should be abused and thus be used for all things except the very purpose for which you gave me to them. They reckoned that by making me god and a law unto myself, they, on their part would be able to satisfy their whims and caprices. It was their idea that I should be divorced from my source, that is, Your Majesty. Even though these royal representatives believe they are having the best of times by using me the way they like, certain fears still lurk at the back of their minds. It is hardly surprising that they remain unfulfilled. Ultimate fulfillment and freedom from fear can only be attained when I am used for the original purpose for which I was given.'
His Majesty was impressed with the way Terrestrial Life put up a spirited defence of all his actions in relation to the royal representatives. Thereafter, he was allowed to leave.
