Police anticipate that 100,000 demonstrators are descending on Hamburg


Today as leaders of the world's top economies come together in Germany, the planet's almost 8 billion inhabitants hope that at the end of their summit, major breakthroughs on the various issues would have been arrived at.

The issues to be deliberated upon include trade, climate change, migration and terrorism.  Anti-capitalist demonstrators have refused to be left out of the equation as they make their feelings known.

A police station has been fire-bombed and cars and buildings set alight in the German city of Hamburg, where world leaders are holding talks.

Shocking footage shows smoke billowing from vehicles as the city hosting the G20 summit became a war zone.  70 people were injured in clashes between riot police and the demonstrators last night.

Police officers use water cannons, as well as pepper spray and batons.  At least 111 officers were hurt during yesterday's clashes, one of whom had to be taken to a hospital with an eye injury after a firework exploded in front of him.

Said Georg Ismail, a demonstrator, 'War, climate change and exploitation are the result of the capitalist system that the G20 stands for and which 20,000 police are here to defend.
