Dad, 28, dumped daughter,
10, in scorching hot desert
without shoes or water
Christopher Watson, from Kingman, Arizona, has now been charged
with domestic child abuse, according to officers from the Mohave
County Sheriff’s Office.
A woman called cops on Saturday morning after finding the shoe-less
girl walking down the road in tears.
It was 33C (91F) when she was found.
Watson and his daughter reportedly got into a fight before the
28-year-old decided to take the girl out for a car ride to calm her down.
The girl added that her father bit her and hit her head while reaching
for the door handle and her father just sped away, according
to reports from KPNX.
The girl said she started walking back toward the street when
she spoke to the woman.
Deputies said they also observed a bite mark on the girl
and she claimed her dad was responsible.
The girl also complained of a headache and her neck hurting.
Medics took the girl to Kingman Regional Medical Center where
she was treated and released.
The Department of Child Safety then took the girl into custody
along with her nine-year-old brother.
Deputies determined that the girl lived with her younger brother
and Watson. The family moved to the area just three weeks ago.
After the deputies arrived at the home, Watson woke up from
a nap and smelled of alcohol.
Watson said he was involved in an argument with his daughter
when he decided to take her for a car ride which had calmed her
down in the past.
He allegedly dragged his daughter from the front passenger seat
across his lap and out of the truck.
Watson admitted to dropping his daughter off in the desert without
any water or shoes.
He said he returned home and waited about 15 minutes before
returning to the desert to pick up his daughter but he was
unable to find her.
Watson was taken into custody without incident and transported
to the Mohave County Jail.
