President Trump Version of Donald Trump's Travel ban approved by the Supreme Court |
A version of President Trump's ban on travellers from six mainly Muslim countries has been approved by the Supreme Court. The highest court in the US ruled that the 90-day ban on visitors from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen could be enforced as long as they lacked a 'credible claim of a bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the United States.' It likewise allowed a 120-day ban on refugees to take effect on a limited basis. This is a sort of vindication for the much-maligned US president.
The Supreme Court justices stated that they would hear arguments in the case when they next sit in October.
Three of the court's conservative judges said they would have let the complete bans take effect. Justice Clarence Thomas said the government's interest in preserving national security outweighs any hardship to people denied entry into the country. The proposed travel ban went before the Supreme Court after two lower federal appeal courts blocked the policy. |
