RED SEA ISLANDS CEDED TO SAUDI ARABIA
The islands of Tiran and Sanafir |
President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt may have incurred the wrath of his people yet again after concluding plans to hand over two uninhabited Red Sea islands to Saudi Arabia. Although the move has the backing of the Egyptian parliament, it has nevertheless attracted widespread public criticism.
Tiran and Sanafir lie in the mouth of a gulf that leads to Israel and Jordan. The islands will be transferred once a treaty is signed by the Egyptian president.
