The directors of Arsenal Football Club have just confirmed that the opinions of millions of their fans do not really matter. Many followers of the club were stunned into silence on learning that Arsene Wenger, their embattled manager, is to continue as manager for another two years in a deal worth £8 million a year. This is despite the protests of fans and the fact that, for the first time in 20 years, the club failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Wenger will be given about £200 million to spend in the summer. However, the chances are that the Frenchman will continue to do more of the same thing which simply means that things may not change for the better at the club.
The task before the manager would then certainly be to win back the fans by doing well in the Premier League and this is doubtful. Time will tell.
