REVISITING THE FIRST SCAM ON EARTH
Ever heard of a
snake that spoke like your average human. Well, this creature was the first to use God's name to achieve a nefarious purpose and this eventually led to a change
in the topography of the universe.
When this mischievous animal slithered through
the branches of the famous tree of knowledge, it was difficult,
at first, for anyone to hazard what was going to happen. However, as the snake came within biting
distance of the woman of the garden, it suddenly started
talking. For some reasons, the woman, on her part, failed to betray any sign of fear. Strange, you would think but that was it.
It was a shimmering setting.
‘Yea, hath God said?’, the serpent queried in
a deep baritone as it began a conversation with the woman. This was the first animal and perhaps the
only snake ever to have held a live conversation with a human being. An unfazed and surprisingly unperturbed Mrs
Adam was thus locked in a conversation that was to determine the fate of all
future generations of humans.
Satan, being
a spirit but desperately in need of a body had commandeered and possessed the
body of this live serpent to carry out what he must have considered a desperately important
operation. It was a now or never, cloak
and dagger operation. As his
conversation with Eve, the mother of all living, gathered pace, this infernal
spirit had the nerve to insinuate to the woman that the Almighty, who had
graciously accommodated Eve and her husband in a beautiful garden home, was
lying to them. In Gen. 3 verse 5, he
specifically said to her, ‘For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof,
then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and
evil.’
This outcast
spirit, putting on the body of a serpent, was indirectly telling Eve that God
was being economical with the truth causing Him to try to hide something from
Eve and her husband. By this, he
cheekily implied that the Almighty was somehow afraid to tell the couple the
whole truth. Sadly, the woman believed
all these lies taking in everything the serpent said hook, line, and sinker. This was how the human race fell
spectacularly. It was the first scam on earth.
It could therefore be said that humans fell trying to become
gods, albeit gods after the order of Satan.
Now, one may need to consider the context in which
the encounter between the serpent, and the first woman to walk the face of
the earth, took place. On one side, we
had the devil. In the first place, it
was even amazing that Satan, masquerading as a snake, was able to find a way to
set up an encounter. He also waited for the perfect time to strike. No one knew for how
long he had been planning this with his kitchen cabinet. This was the same devil, God’s number one enemy,
an erstwhile cherub, now unemployed and having a lot of time on his hands, desperately
bitter and forlorn. This was a guy who
would rather be kicked out of heaven than submit to his Creator. On the other side we had Eve. Sadly, her husband was missing when she needed him most. Adam and Eve were a
human couple who were basically constructed from the dust of the earth under Satan’s
very nose.
