ALIASES FOR THE WORD

THE BIBLE AS GOD'S LAW

The bible is known as the Law of the Lord.  Psalm 19 verse 7 states, 'The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul.'  After Moses, that courageous leader of the children of Israel, had completed his ministry and died, the responsibility to lead Israel into the Promised Land fell on Joshua.  At that point, Joshua, the erstwhile personal assistant to the great Moses needed all the encouragement he could get.  The Lord God did not fail to speak to His servant, boosting his morale.

Emphasising the fact that Joshua should not handle the Word lightly, the Almighty told him in no uncertain terms in the book of Joshua chapter 1, ''Be strong and very courageous.  Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.  Do not let this book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.  Then you will be prosperous and successful.''

It is common knowledge that every human society is governed by laws.  There are laws which govern the relationships between citizens, spelling out the duties of one citizen to another.  These laws also state the citizen's duties to the state and vice versa.  In the same way, there are rules, regulations and laws, which govern the internal and external workings and relations in different organisations.

In the same way, under the government of God, the bible is the spiritual law or the book of spiritual law that governs the relationship between God and the whole of humanity.  In human societies, for instance, ignorance of the law is no defence.  Likewise, on the day of judgement, people will not be able to say that they have never heard of the bible or that they did not know the bible.  This is why, knowing the terror of the Lord, we at Beulaland Blog endeavour to persuade everyone everywhere to buy into the Word of God which is the Law of God.

For example, the book of Revelation 21 verse 27 states concerning the new Jerusalem, 'But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.'  This then means that this verse becomes law and it cannot be abrogated.  No argument or controversy from any quarters can change this verse.  Therefore, in the light of this verse, any wise human would endeavour to seek for forgiveness and cleansing from his/her sins so that they will be qualified to be admitted to that glorious city at the end.  Again, this book of the Law or the Word states that only the blood of Jesus can cleanse anyone from sin.

The bible, as the Law of God, states quite clearly the duties that God has taken upon Himself to discharge to mankind, especially to those who trust, love and obey Him.  The book states what ought to be the relationship between human beings, spelling out the duties of one man to another.  Also, it states the duties of man to God.  In Mark 12 verses 29, 30 and 31, we read the Lord's statement, 'Jesus answered him, ''The first of all the commandments is: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.  And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.'  ''This is the first commandment.  And the second, like it, is this:  'You shall love your neighbour as yourself.'  ''There is no other commandment greater than these.''
