Husbands from across the UK battle hills, hay hurdles and freezing water to compete for annual wife-carrying trophy

Nearly 40 couples competed in the 380-metre obstacle course in Dorking, Surrey



HUSBANDS from across the country haul their better halves up a hill on their backs in the annual wife-carrying race.
Nearly 40 wives were swept off their feet and carried around the 380m course, which included a hill climb, hay bale hurdles and spectators armed with buckets of freezing water.

Race organiser Rob McCaffrey said: “Every year we have a couple of wives who fall pregnant between registering and the race and this year we have very sadly had a couple who have broken up, which is a first.
“It’s a very competitive race and we are hoping to send the winners out to the world wife-carrying race in Finland.”
Jack McKendrick from North Wales came first his win with his partner Kirsty Jones.
