Terrifying moment lioness tries to attack screaming tourists at Mexican safari park by leaping over safety trench

The lioness on the left sees the tourists …or maybe she just sees lunch?

THIS is the terrifying moment a lioness appears to spot a group of tourists before jumping over a safety trench to catch her prey.  

Footage caught on a phone camera shows the huge beast preparing to pounce as the Jeep full of camera-clutching tourists passes by.
The lioness was filmed crouching on an island that separates the big cats from an area where tourists approached in a safari buggy.
But after several seconds the wild cat called Elsa suddenly jumps forward in a bid to clear the safety trench encircling her enclosure.
Understandably alarmed, the tourists immediately howl in terror as they watch the lion jump towards them – but then fall into the ravine below.

Alas, the cat misjudges the distance and falls victim to the forces of gravity

But luckily this cat had eight more lives.
When later examined by vets at the safari park, she was found not to be badly injured.
Authorities at the Star Biopark in Nuevo Leon in Mexico park say she is back in her enclosure.
