GOD, CHOICES AND INTERVENTIONS

There are times when people do feel sorry for themselves especially when they consider their situations in life.  They look at happenings in their environment, their cities, their states and their nation at large.  People often see brazen injustice and mismanagement of resources at every turn.  Yet, they feel that they are helpless to do anything about these things.  Destinies are often being truncated before our very eyes.  All these have often led to people asking why God does not always intervene to put things right.  Why, for instance, hasn't God taken out the ISIS thugs with one clap of thunder?  Why does God allow wars to start?  Why does God allow killings?


One cannot do justice to this issue without dispassionately looking at the case of the first humans that lived on this planet.  You will probably recall that, according to the bible, man was brought on the scene to rule and reign on earth and there was no evil in sight.  However, according to biblical accounts, everything changed with the fall of man.  Surprisingly, there are those who, again, ask why God didn't intervene to stop humans from being tempted by the devil (serpent) thereby averting the fall of the human race.  What these people fail to understand is that when God created humans, they were not created to be puppets.  God was not and is not a puppeteer.  God created humans in His own image, that is, people who had wills to decide one way or the other.  Therefore, whatever we see happening on earth is as a result of decisions made by humans.

Nevertheless, God always intervened at critical junctures.  For example, He intervened after the fall of man.  Again, He intervened during the time of Noah when human depravity reached its zenith.  There were other recorded interventions by the Almighty.  The things that always characterised God's interventions were His eagerness to save man from himself and a willingness to reset man on the path of redemption in order to give him a hope and a future.  In short, God's interventions in human history have always been opportunities whereby humans are enabled to submit their wills to God's will, if they are so inclined, so that they are well placed to choose life instead of death. 

God's last intervention was to send His only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave His life as a ransom for ours. Romans 4 verse 25.  Sadly, rather than keying in into God's way, most humans prefer to think that they are alright on their own, always devising ways out of the human quagmire.  They believe they are wiser than God.
