A grand military parade could put tanks and troops on the streets of Washington
The president has not been able to get it out of his mind having been particularly dazzled by it. It was the parade he watched with President Macron last year during the Bastille Day celebrations in France. The parade included tanks, jets painting a Tricolour over the Arc de Triomphe and a brass band performing hits by the electronic duo Daft Punk.
According to reports, Mr Trump has said that the Bastille Day parade was one of the best he had ever seen when he revisited it two months later at a meeting with Mr Macron. Sitting next to the French leader, he said: “We may have to top it.”
Discussions, confirmed by the White House and Pentagon last night, are thought to have begun in earnest after a meeting last month between Mr Trump, senior military officials and General John Kelly, his chief of staff.
