Many graduates get little returns for their degrees despite racking up £50,000 in debt
University leaders maintain that a degree remains an excellent investment. The problem however is that too many people are studying academic degrees.
This has led to between a fifth and a third of graduates taking non-graduate jobs.
A former skills minister, Mr Halfon has said that the nation has "become obsessed with full academic degrees".
According to him, "We are creating a higher education system that overwhelmingly favours academic degrees, while intermediate and higher technical offerings are comparatively tiny.
"The labour market does not need an ever-growing supply of academic degrees.
