Jihadist defies judge

Abdeslam was wearing a white jacket and thick black beard as he was led in front of judges

The French passport holder of Moroccan background faces a 40 year sentence

He is the sole terrorist survivor of the murderous ISIS attack on Paris that killed 130 people.

As he arrived in court, Salah Abdeslam, 28, was flanked by two special-forces police officers brandishing machine guns and wearing balaclavas. It was the start of his trial in Brussels.

All those who had hoped that he would open up about the bloodshed were disappointed. This was amidst hugely dramatic scenes at the Palais de Justice.

Amazingly, rather than show some remorse, the notorious jihadi launched into a tirade in the name of his Muslim religion.
'I'm not afraid of you, I place my trust in Allah,' he told the judge.

Abdeslam even refused to stand and also invoked his right to stop cameramen picturing or filming him in court.
