Christine Lagarde, the managing director of the IMF
The world is enjoying its best period of growth since emerging from the global financial crisis
As world leaders and other movers and shakers of societies around the world gather at the Swiss resort of Davos for the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum, the IMF has some good news for the global economy.
IMF’s managing director, Christine Lagarde said,
“Global growth has been accelerating since 2016 and all signs point to a continuous strengthening. This is very welcome news.”
The IMF dared to upgrade global growth figures for this year and next from 3.7 per cent to 3.9 per cent. It also revised its estimate for last year from 3.5 per cent to 3.7 per cent — the strongest statement for economic prospects since the 2008 financial crash.
