How Satan uses the Word of God to destroy humans
It should not be particularly surprising that Satan and his evil spirits hate humans with passion.
The reasons for this are as follows:
1. He operates on the principle of - If you cannot get the Father, go for the children:
Satan hates God. However, when it comes to God, there is nothing he could or can do. God is too much for him. This was why he was removed from heaven in the first place because two captains cannot be in the same boat. Not unexpectedly, the next thing he believed he could do was to go for humans who are God's children having been created in His image. Gen. 1 verse 26
2. Humans were created to fill the vacuum created by Satan's expulsion from heaven:
When Satan and the dissident angels were thrown out of heaven, the number of all angels was reduced by a third. This meant that heaven lost a third of God's worshippers. There were therefore places to be filled. More worshippers of God were needed. Humans were created for worship and the devil was and is still not unaware of this. As a result of the fall of man which he masterminded, he has perverted God's worship so much so that fallen humans worship all sorts of things. He is happy as long as humans don't worship God. The devil hates the idea of humans taking his place. He is therefore angry and shocked. Psalm 150 verse 6; John 4 verses 23 and 24; Hebrews 2 verse 10
3. Satan is envious of the assignment given to humans:
The assignment given to man was to rule over all Creation. This is the job that Satan had always wanted. This was why he fought to take over heaven and by extension all of Creation. Isaiah 14 verses 12, 13 and 14; Genesis 1 verse 26; Psalm 8
4. Satan has always believed that humans are inferior to him:
He could not understand what the fuss is all about when it comes to humans. You will remember how he spoke dismissively about Job in Job chapters 1, 2 and 3. Truly, Satan was made with various precious materials including gold while man was made with the dust of the earth. Even the Psalmist would admit that man was made a little lower than the angels. Ezekiel 28 verses 12, 13 and 14
Therefore, the idea of humans being considered worthy to go to heaven from where he was expelled enrages the devil. He would rather want to take as many humans as he can to the lake of fire where he is headed.
Our Lord Jesus Christ described Satan as a liar and a thief. John 8 verse 44. In John 10 verse 10, the Lord said,
''The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.''
We will use the case of the first human couple to ever dwell on earth to show how the devil or Satan uses the Word of God to steal from, kill and destroy humans.
We must realise that when God put humans in the garden of Eden, He covered them with His glory and sealed them by and with His Word. As a result, humans could not be attacked, they could suffer no harm or accident, they could not be impoverished and they could not be killed or destroyed by any means or in any way.
Did you notice that when Satan sauntered into Adam and Eve's garden abode using the body of a snake, he could do none of the above things to them. He could not attack them, he could not make them ill, he could not accuse them of anything, he could not harm them in any way, he could not kill or destroy them.
What did he do? He went for the Word which God had committed into their hands. It is not that Satan could do anything to the Word per se. However, he knew that once he was able to convince humans to distance themselves from the Word of God or go against the Word of God, humans would become exposed and become mere prey to him.
Did you then notice that during the first ever encounter or contact that Satan had with humans the first thing he said was,
''Did God say'' or ''Has God indeed said.''
This was not accidental as he was and still a deliberate person. He targeted God's Word given to man. He was determined to separate humans from God's Word. He knew that the barrier standing between him and humans was the Word of God, so he knew that he had to do something about the Word first. So, he was able to persuade the mother of all humans and by extension, her husband, to go against the Word of God.
Therefore, the Lord Jesus said that, ''The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill and to destroy,.................................................................................................................................................'' . We must realise that the devil was only able to do these things in the first place because humans willingly removed the seal of the Word of God by which God sealed them.
1. Stealing:
What did the devil not steal from humans? He stole his health, his sanity, his relationship with God, his joy, his peace and his life. Outside the Word of God, man is dispossessed.
2. Killing:
Hebrews 2 verse 14 describes Satan as one who had the power of death. He only had this power because man gave it to him by walking out on the Word of God.
3. Destroying:
Humans will be eternally lost should they remain outside the Word of God. John 3 verse 16; Revelation 20 verse 15.
Therefore, even God's angels themselves rejoiced greatly with humans when God sent His Word in human form about 2000 years ago in order to identify with us in our woes, to dwell with us and to deliver us from all our destructions. Psalm 107 verse 20. John 1 verse 14 also states, 'And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.'
Hear how the angels of God celebrated the birth of the Word incarnate,
'Then the angel said to them, ''Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.''
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
''Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!'' '
