Sam Allardyce has never been relegated

When you are hanging dangerously around the relegation zone, who best to turn to than a specialist in fighting relegation battles.  This is exactly what Everton Football Club have done.

The Toffees have switched their attention to the tested relegation battler after failing to lure Marco Silva from Watford.

Even though the club spent almost £150 million on players in the summer, they have been a sorry sight this season.  Everton, not unaware of Allardyce's reputation, spoke to him earlier in the season but both parties could not come to an agreement.

The club may now name the former Crystal Palace boss their manager in the next 48 hours, although Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca and Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill are also in the running.

Caretaker manager David Unsworth who took over when Ronald Koeman was sacked on October 23 has failed to make an impression.  They have won just one of their last seven games in all competitions.  This has forced major shareholder Farhad Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright to hasten their search.
