SURPRISED BY HIMSELF

When Zinedine Zidane, Real Madrid's coach had the job thrust upon him about 18 months ago, very few people gave him a chance of success.  He had been the manager of the B team.  The odds on him succeeding were not particularly high.  Club president, Perez, nevertheless chose to give him the job.

Now, having won the Champions League back to back, people are beginning to sit up in order to applaud.  If he was considered lucky the first time around when he won the trophy, retaining the Champions League cannot be ascribed to mere luck.

Being a top player himself during his playing days having won the Champions League as a player, he certainly had the respect and the ears of the players.  This is a man who has now succeeded where Rafael Benitez and Jose Mourinho failed.  Long may it continue.
