Hainan province, an island region in the south of China has a tradition in bathing in the water to keep oneself safe and happy during an entire year.
People believe that Qu Yuan, a patriot poet during 475-221BC became a dragon after he committed suicide in the river.
During the holiday, it is tradition to eat zongzi which are rice dumplings stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo leaves. They are cooked by steaming or boiling.
This isn't the only time that beaches in China become busy. Every year over the May bank holiday, beaches in the southern coastal city of Shenzhen are packed prompting authorities to introduce an online booking system to help curb the number of people visiting.
