The daughter of France's new First Lady Brigitte Trogneux has blasted the trolls who have criticised the 24-year age gap between her and her husband Emmanuel Macron.
Tiphaine Auzière, 32, said 'jealousy' was behind the 'abhorrent' attacks targeting her 64-year-old mother's relationship with the French president, 39, in recent weeks.
The married lawyer defended Mrs Trogneux while promoting her own career as deputy to a parliamentary candidate for Mr Macron's new party.
Speaking to BFMTV, Mrs Auzière, a mother of two, said: 'I don't want to give credence to people who do this kind of thing.
'I find abhorrent in France in the 21st century such attacks, which would not be carried out against a male politician or a male companion of a female politician.'
'There's a lot of jealousy,' she concluded.
Mrs Trogneux, who is 24 years older than her husband, has faced a barrage of abuse since details of how they met emerged.
The unconventional romance started after the pair met when Mr Macron starred in one of Mrs Trogneux's plays at Jesuit school Lycee La Providence in Amiens, northern France.
Mr Macron shared a classroom at a Catholic school with one of Mrs Trogneux's two daughters Laurence – who is also 39.
Journalist Anne Fulda, who interviewed Macron, his wife and both of his parents for a book about the politician, said they had been shocked to discover their teenage son, rather than pursuing her daughter, was pursuing Trogneux herself.
The pair also went on to re-write a play together, which they later admitted was the period when they fell in love. At the time, Mr Macron was just 16.

In an interview with Fulda, Mr Macron said: 'You know, the day we wrote that piece together, I had the impression I was working with Mozart.'
Speaking to French magazine Paris Match, she said: 'I could feel I was falling, he was too...', before adding: 'At 17, Emmanuel told me: "Whatever you do, I will marry you!"
'Love took everything in its passage and led me to divorce. It was impossible to resist him.'
Ms Trogneux a mother-of-three, from a renowned bourgeois family in the town of Amiens, later left her banker husband Andre-Louis Auziere for her pupil - who had been in the same class as her daughter Laurence.

Before his election, Mr Macron broached the abuse targeted at his wife, saying she was the victim of 'everyday misogyny'.
'If I were 20 years older than my wife, nobody would have thought for a single second that I couldn't be an intimate partner,' he told Le Parisien newspaper.
'It's because she is 20 years older than me that lots of people say, 'This relationship can't be tenable, it can't be possible'.'

Among the critics is pop superstar Madonna, who said that 'no one seems to care about the age difference' in a post on social media.
'The first Lady of France is 24 yrs older than her husband and no one in France seems to care about their age difference nor insisted that Brigitte 'Act her Age' Vive La France!' she wrote on Instagram.
Elsewhere, satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo was accused of sinking to new depths of vicious misogyny with a cartoon depicting Mrs Trogneux pregnant.
The image on the front page of the controversial publication shows Brigitte smiling with a huge 'miracle' baby bump in front of her.
It is being patted by a cartoon of Emmanuel Macron, the new President-elect, who, at 39 is a full quarter of a century younger than his wife.
The headline 'He's Going to Work Miracles' accompanies the image, which is drawn by male cartoonist Riss - the pen name of Laurent Sourisseau, who is also Hebdo's publishing director.
It suggested that it would take a 'miracle' for the Macrons - who have no children together - to get pregnant.

'CharlieHebdo has fallen very low,' said Lea Maria an academic and feminist campaignerfrom Sciences Po, one of the leading universities in Paris.
MsMaria's anger on Twitter was supported by scores of others, including RemiTastet who wrote: 'The usual sexism in the age of Brigitte Macron continues.Charlie Hebdo is still the worst.'
DominiqueBouissou added: 'And the competition forthe being the most misogynistic is largely won by Charlie Hebdo.
It comes amid reports that Mrs Trogneux is anticipated to play a key role in the centrist's new government.
Mirroring a Michelle Obama approach to her first lady role, she is reportedly keen to become involved in issues such as education.
With two decades more life experience than her husband and as the ex-teacher who has shaped his character since the age of 15, the grandmother of eight is expected to play an active role in the new government.

The Macrons will be moving into the Elysee Palace on Sunday, following Mr Macron's landslide 66 per cent presidential election win against far-Right National Front candidate Marine LePen last weekend.
