David Beckham’s Miami
MLS franchise stadium
plans revealed ahead of 2021
launch
Former Manchester United and Real Madrid star looking to
build stunning new 25,000-seater stadium fit for the MLS
It will be privately funded and is set to create 50 permanent jobs
for those living in the neighbourhood.
The stadium is based in the Overtown neighbourhood, just northwest
of Downtown Miami, but will not include any parking areas.
Beckham hopes to acquire space elsewhere and provide a
shuttle service for fans, allaying local fears over traffic.
The 42-year-old’s plans have been in the works for three years
after he agreed to pay just £19million to create the club.
12 other US cities are currently bidding to create their own franchises,
with just four to be given permission by the MLS.
However, they will have to pay £115m for the privilege – significantly
more than Beckham’s fee.
