POWER APPEARS BEFORE HIS MAJESTY
| Power arrives to keep his appointment |
Power was bubbling with exuberant enthusiasm on arrival at the Royal Guest House. He had come to keep his appointment with His Majesty, King Almighty. If anything, he was convinced that His Majesty's representatives had picked on a wrong opponent by falsely accusing him of some serious wrongdoings. As far as he was concerned, the fight to clear his name was just starting. The initial fear nursed by him had therefore given way to defiance. He was absolutely sure he had committed no offence worthy of punishment. He was ready, or so he thought, to meet with the King in order to get things sorted out once and for all.
This god was immediately led to the waiting section. He looked totally self-assured, leaving no one in doubt that he was raring to go. As he sat there like a colossus, one could not but wonder how this great man came to be accused of all those misdemeanours.
Could he have been framed?
Was it another case of the King's representatives looking for a scapegoat for their many lapses?
Nonetheless, he steeled himself when it was time for him to be ushered into His Majesty's presence. As he came face to face with His Majesty, the King immediately called him out,
'Power, is that right?'
'Yes, Your Majesty,' he replied, hoping desperately that favour would smile on him.
'How come' continued the King 'that you were that audacious to have decided to fight my representatives to a point where they had to submit to you?'
Straightaway, Power took the King's strong start as a chance to immediately start pleading his innocence. He decided to seize the moment.
'Most Honourable Potentate,' Power responded, 'I bow in awe of you and in total submission to your will. To start with, Your Majesty, the fault was never mine. I have been unfairly accused of wrongdoing. Your representatives were responsible for all the troubles in Terrestrial in that they decided to reverse the right order of things in complete defiance of your injunctions. They had simply thought that they could get it right by having it their own way. Glorious King, you will see this by the time I come to the end of my explanations.'
The much-maligned god continued, determined to win a reprieve for himself,
'I reverently and with the utmost sense of responsibility acknowledge the fact that I came from you originally. In height, in depth and in width, I declare without any hesitation that I was designed by you. Also, I know that, ultimately, in whatever form that I can be found, I belong to you. You determined my beginning just as you will decide my end. You reserve the right to give me to whoever you choose and at anytime. I congratulate you on your magnanimity in delegating me to your representatives, even though they often believe that they had me through their own ruthless scheming and cleverness. I can be defined as the ability to get things done, the enabling to achieve the results desired. I am glad to state that I exist in various forms : Spiritual Power, Economic Power, Physical Power, Technological Power and Political Power.
Power was not done yet as he continued his defence, all in a bid to get himself off the hook;
'I have the capability to turn things around depending on what form I am in and the situation. I have the capacity to uproot and to plant, depending on what uses I am put to. However, the greatest benefit derives from my being used appropriately, that is, for positive ends, for example, to right wrongs. It is then that I can be sweet and it is then that I can be a succour, a source of contentment and an inspiration. Ultimately, it means that I am only just a means to an end and not an end. All those who see me as anything more than a means to an end delude themselves. To a great extent, even though I belong to you, I can be acquired by anyone who desires me provided that such a person is prepared to make the necessary sacrifices. You made it possible for your representatives to be able to acquire me because of the universal need to bind wounds, to uphold the truth, to be able to execute judgement, to build, to protect the weak, to uproot and to plant.'
'However, if I am not properly husbanded,' added Power, confirming the possibility of his being mismanaged, 'I have the potential to degenerate into an uncontrollable monster, ready to wreak havoc. What I mean by this is that I can be misused. When this happens, I become more of a liability than an asset to everyone in my vicinity. If I 'm misused, I have the wherewithal to metamorphose into a juggernaut that destroys everything on its path. This happens when I am worshipped, when I am treated as master and not as a servant that I really am, when I am looked upon as an end and not as a means to an end. I then assume control instead of being put under control. Essentially, I consider that when this happens I am abused, because I am not being protected by being properly supervised. In such situations, everyone had usually always been worse off. Lives have been ruined, dreams irretrievably shattered, communities bastardised, careers lost, homes wrecked and nations destroyed whenever I have been worshipped. Also, names have been corrupted, empires annihilated, prospects ruined and kingdoms debased on those occasions that I was misused or worshipped.
Power went on,
'As I am not all in all, I was surprised that anyone could think of worshipping me. How could anyone have contemplated deifying me, a mere servant? I have maintained at all times that I am merely for a purpose, but your representatives thought otherwise. They decided to make me god. One may never know why they decided to do this. The fact was that I failed in that I could not satisfy their deepest yearnings for fulfilment. Actually, when they made me god, they became my hostages. This enabled me to be able to tell them what to do. That was because they willingly handed over control to me. I therefore had no choice than to take over in order to ensure that there was no vacuum.'
'Your Majesty, I did not precipitate any crisis as I did not ask your representatives to make me god.'
It appeared that Power had managed to clear himself. He thanked His Majesty profusely for his patience in listening to his own side of the story. Afterwards he was allowed to leave.
