Antoine Griezmann
transfer won’t fix Jose Mourinho’s problems
at Manchester United,
warns Fabio Capello
Fabio Capello believes Manchester United need more
than just Antoine Griezmann to challenge for the Premier
League title next season.
The Red Devils finished sixth this year but still managed
to secure two major trophies after winning the Europa
League and EFL Cup.
Wednesday evening’s Europa League triumph against Ajax,
inspired by goals from Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan,
guaranteed United’s return to the Champions League.
United are now expected to enjoy a productive summer
transfer window and Atletico Madrid superstar Griezmann
is being heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
But former England boss Capello claims United need to
strengthen in other areas if they are to truly challenge
Premier League champions Chelsea.
‘It was a poor game,’ Capello told the Daily Star when asked
about United’s win over Ajax in Stockholm.
‘There was not enough exciting football. United are strong
and defend well, which is good. But they are not an exciting
team.
‘Griezmann is a very good player. But what is his best position?
He is not a striker. United need more than him.
‘They have other areas in which to strengthen.
Chelsea are so strong and they need to catch them.
It will be difficult.’
