Tourist dramatically pictured being pulled out of blood-stained lake after leg is bitten off by crocodile

 The swimmer was attacked by the fearsome beast while splashing around in Africa's iconic Lake Victoria

A tourist's leg was bitten off after he went for a swim in a crocodile-infested lake.

The stricken swimmer was pictured being hauled from the blood-stained waters with one of his limbs missing.

He was splashing around in Africa's iconic Lake Victoria, Uganda, when he was attacked by the reptile.

The animal clamped its jaws around his left leg and severed the limb just below the knee.

The crocodile chomped through flesh and bone.

A photo shows locals in Kalangala, which is famed for its beach resorts, pulling the man out of the water.

In the image, the water of the lake, usually clear blue, can be seen stained with blood.

The unidentified tourist, a middle-aged white man who was wearing a pair of black shorts, seems dazed from the blood loss.

Three locals in shorts are attempting to get carry the man out of the water, while another man in a red sports kit stands watching in horror.

A member of the Uganda People's Defence Force - the country's army - can also be seen helping.
















The massive Lake Victoria is one of the African Great Lakes and drains into the River Nile.
It is the world's largest tropical lake and was named after Queen Victoria by British explorers in 1858.

The lake is home to a number of species, most famously Nile crocodiles.

The Nile crocodile is one of the most dangerous species of crocodile and is responsible for hundreds of human deaths every year.

The man's current condition is not known.
