THE BIBLE AS GOD'S WAYS
The bible is called the ways of the Lord. Isaiah 55 verse 8 states, ''For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,'' says the Lord. By definition, a person's way is his manner, his methods or means. It can also be described as the person's preferences, habits, character or idiosyncrasies. Generally, each person has a way of doing things; usually, this is unique to him or her. This is a characteristic that can also be found in God in whose image man was made. He has His way of going about things, His method of handling situations and His means of achieving whatever He wants to achieve.
For example, the bible says that God does nothing without first revealing it to His servants, the prophets. In essence, therefore, those who are conversant with the Word know the future because it is revealed in the prophetic ministries of His servants as recorded in the bible. This easily means that those who do not want to remain in darkness concerning the future need only to look into the bible. It was the Psalmist who wrote, 'He revealed His ways unto Moses, His acts unto Israel.'
For those who want to know the character of God, His nature, His mind on any issue, His plans, His purposes and His preferences, they need only to look into the bible. As an example, we read in Malachi 2 verse 16, ' ''For the Lord God of Israel says That He hates divorce, For it covers one's garment with violence,'' says the Lord of hosts.........' The more of His ways we know the more understanding we have of Him in our walk with Him. In any case, we can only walk in God's ways if we know those ways.
We are going to look at only two points, out of over a hundred, which show God's ways, preferences or character:
1. God rewards faith in Him - One of the reasons why Abraham was considered a great patriarch was due to his faith in God. With humans, for instance, seeing is believing. However, for those who want to enjoy a relationship with God, believing is seeing. The Lord spoke to Martha in John 11 verse 40, 'Jesus said to her, ''Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?'' '
2. God hates sin even though He loves the sinner - People often fail to always remember that God the Father killed God the Son because of the sins of the world. The bitter truth is that we will not make heaven if we allow sin to remain in our lives. The Lord Jesus states in Matthew 13 verses 41, 42 and 43, ''The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practise lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father, He who has ears to hear, let him hear!''
