Antonio Conte wants Chelsea to re-sign Ryan Bertrand from Southampton
Chelsea are targeting a summer move for Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand, according to reports.
The Evening Standard claims that Antonio Conte wants to strengthen his options on the left side of defence and is a ‘huge admirer’ of the England international.
The report also claims that Southampton now value the 27-year-old in excess of £25 million, having signed him from Chelsea for just £10m in February 2015.
Bertrand initially joined Chelsea from Gillingham shortly before his 16th birthday in 2005, but failed to hold down a regular role during his time at Stamford Bridge and was mostly sent out on loan.
In Mourinho’s first season back at Stamford Bridge, Bertrand made only three appearances before being allowed to leave on loan to Aston Villa midway through the campaign.
Bertrand briefly returned to pre-season training under Mourinho but was then allowed to join Southampton on loan in July 2015, before being permanently sold six months later.
